England is a country which is in the Great Britain island and covers most of it and belongs to the United Kingdom. England has London as its capital city but there are important cities such as Brighton, Bournemouth, Batch, Winchester, Southampton, Plymouth, Bristol in the south and Manchester, Liverpool, Birminghan, Sheffield, Newcastle...it has nearly 63 million inhabitants, it has a mild Atlantic climate with frequent rains and changeable weather and famous natural landmarks with quaint villages, dramatic cliffs and beautiful forests such as the ancient New Forest in Hampshire, the Cotswolds, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Cheshire, Hampshire, North York Moors, Lake District and beautiful counties as Dorset, Essex, Sussex, Cornwall.

The English language belongs to a part of the culture of the country, England, where it has its origins though nowadays due to the expansion of British in colonies mainly during the time time span of the British empire it is spoken in nearly sixty countries. The relations between linguistics and anthropologyare endless, thus the study of cultural anthropology is precise for the knowledge of ethnology, archaelogy and folklore such as myths, folk tales, proverbs, legends. As learners of English we must adopt an understanding and appreciation of cultures different from one´s own to avoid ethnocentrism (the interpretation of other culture´s in terms of our own) and the culture is made up of ideas, beliefs, customs, taboos, codes, emblems, rituals, ceremonies, institutions, works of art, stereotypes, celebrations...

The structure of culture has component three component patterns: cultural traits, areas and types and the institutional structure and functions are those of social organization, economic systems, education, custom and law and religion and belief. England has increased its influence into its neighbour nations now related in the same political entity which makes up the United Kingdom of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and though the British empire no longer exists except in the commercial and sociopolitical relations of former colonies in the Commonwealth there are still certain cultural British imperialism in the form of the expansion of culture by means of institutions such as the British Council or trends in music, customs...There are emblems (devices, symbols or figure adopted and used as an identifying mark) of England is the anthem "God Save the Queen", the patron saint is Saint George and the floral emblem is the rose since the Wars of the Roses, a civil war (1455-1485) between the royal house of Lancaster (red rose) and the royal house of York (white rose). The English lion as emblem is in the coat of arms of the UK which is the Three Lions Crest and the "Union Jack" is the official flag of UK which unites the English flag of the red cross on white of St. George on the the white X on blue of St. Andrew for Scotland and on white of St. Patrick for Ireland.

Also there are emblematic places which are English landmarks such Stonehenge and Bronze Age megalithic monument in Wiltshire,the Big Ben, the clock tower next to the Houses of Parliament, the Tower of London and Tower Bridge, the oldest palace, fortress and prison in Europe and its bridge where are the Crown Jewels and the curious keepers Royal Ravens, the White Cliffs of Dover and more.
Stereotypes refer to a fixed or general pattern, standardized mental picture which is held in common by members of a group and that represents an oversimplified opinion, prejudiced attitude or uncritical judgement over different fields of culture such as lifestyle, food, weather...and they are often rejected if they have negative connotations. The usual stereotypes for English people is that they talk preferably about the weather, they love queues, the Royal family, British food is awful, they are polite though sarcastic, they love tea, they apologise frequently, they are classy or they have bad teeth.
