Education in Australia and New Zealand

 Australian education is compulsory from till students reach 17 or 18 years old, structured in the following levels:

-Early Childhood: includes preschool or kindergarten for children aged 3 to 5 years.

-Primary Education: normally from Year 1 to Year 6 (ages six to twelve).

-Secondary Education: typically from Year 7 to Year 12 (students from 12 to 18 years old).

-Post-compulsory Education: 

-Pathways Programs: they have transition programs to prepare students for university if they do not reach entry requirements, these may include foundation studies or bridging courses.

-Vocational Education and Training (VET): they provide practical training and education in specific careers to get diplomas and certificate courses in fields such as hospitality, trades, health care, ICT, etc.

-Universities: they offer undergraduate (Bachelor´s), graduate (Master´s and Doctoral) degrees and professional qualifications. Students enter after they pass the ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) score or equivalent qualifications. There are noteworthy universities such as Australian National University, University of Melbourne or Sidney University.

Australian post-compulsory education offered online learning and flexible options since long time ago and the government offers financial assistance to pay the tuition fees at University such as HECS-HELP especially for Australian students with grants that student must pay back after they have enough income. NEW ZEALAND: its famous for its progressivism and high standard. It is divided in these key levels:

-Early Childhood Education: children from 0 to 5 years attend kindergardens, playcenters, etc.

-Primary Education: normally from Year 1 to Year 8 (from ages 5 to 12).

-Secondary Education: from Year 9 to Year 13 (students who are 12 till 18 years old, though it is compulsory till 16 years old most students complete education as eighteen years old).

-Post-compulsory education:

>institutes of technology provide vocational education and training that focuses on practical skills for specific areas. They offer diplomas, certificates and degrees in areas such as trades, business, health care and creative arts.

> Polytechnics emphasizes on hands-on learning and industry connection.

>Apprenticeships: similar to Australian job training and classroom instruction and it usually lasts from 3 to 4 years in trades such as plumbing, electrical work, automotive services, etc.

>Universities: there are 8 universities in the country that offer undergraduate (bachelor´s) and postgraduate (master´s and doctoral) degrees as well as professional qualifications.
